MLK DAY OF SERVICE 2012 - Wow! What an incredible day of blessings! Over 250 people from 35 churches from across the Tarrant Area made it a day on and not a day off -- and what in impact we were able to make together at 22 service sites around Fort Worth. People worked weeding and turning soil at community gardens, stocking canned goods at food banks, sorting clothing at clothing banks, filing historical documents at the Lenora Rolla Center, cleaning toys at community centers, washing windows, mowing and raking and trimming at the homes of elderly folks in Como, and much, much more. It was definitely a day on, and together we were able to accomplish so much! Many thanks to Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church for all their hospitality and volunteers. A big thanks to the Reverend Peris Lester for preaching us into service and to the Saintsville Youth Choir for its incredible music -- and to its directors, First Lady Shirley Pace and Glenn Nixon; thanks also to Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks for bringing us greetings from the City of Fort Worth and for the Reverend Milton Pace for his inspiring words encouraging us to make every day a day of service to the Lord!
GOT AGAPE? GOTTA HAVE IT! CELEBRATION OF CHRISTIAN UNITY - Agape was there! What a night to remember and to celebrate our unity in Jesus Christ and our call to serve Christ in all we do. St. Andrews Catholic Church pulled out all the stops on hospitality with their warm welcome and gracious spirit. The Reverend Carol Grant Gibson, pastor of St. Andrews United Methodist Church preached a powerful sermon on living the Love of Jesus Christ, the McMillan United Methodist Church choir and musical leadership of Brian Benison and Mike Hyry of St. Andrews Catholic Church bonded us together in music and song. Kids Who Care opened our dinner program with a punch and Jack Jezreel of Just Faith brought a clarifying word on what it means to put Agape into action. It was a wonderful night, and our thanks go out to Father Tom Stabile, pastor of St. Andrews Catholic Church; Father Jeff Poirot, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church; A'Isha Malone, TACC Board member; and Reverend Gilbert Marez, pastor Iglesia Cristiana Camino de Paz and TACC Board member for their leadership in worship.
SACK LUNCH CHUCK WAGON - Wow! We have certainly headed 'em up and moved 'em out! The final count of lunches at the end of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo was 4,95 -- just shy of 5,000. Amazing! That adds up to 1 lunch of non-perishable items for 22 days for 225 homeless day laborers. Thanks to the churches that made it happen! First Street Mission of First United Methodist of Fort Worth, Community Crossroads of First Presbyterian of Fort Worth, the Broadway Center of Broadway Baptist Church, Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, First United Methodist of Colleyville, Western Hills United Methodist Church, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Andrews Catholic Church, University Christian Church, Smithfield United Methodist Church, Faith United Methodist Church, Christ United Methodist Church, and El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church. This chuck wagon was fully loaded! Good job, "cooks!" We'll do it again next year!
